When it comes to bedroom décor, there tends to be two main rivals: the modern bedroom set and the contemporary bedroom set. While it does come down to your own personal preference at the end of the day, we can give you some handy tips on recognizing the major differences between the two.
The Term Definitions
A modern design is usually used to reference a style from the 1920s to around the end of the 1950s. This type of design is fixed, with specific elements that will not, or will they ever change. Contemporary design is ever changing and evolving, sometimes borrowing and incorporating elements from other design styles.
When it comes to a specific look for the two different design schemes, it can be hard to define. Contemporary bedroom sets will tend to borrow from the modern bedroom set model, such as using similar clean lines. One big difference between the two however, is that contemporary tends to use a variety of different shapes in their pieces, whereas modern tends to stick with classic, bold lines and squared or smooth shaping. Modern also tend to borrow heavily from the industrial age (as that is what was available then), so you will see more metals and plastics than you would in a contemporary bedroom set. A contemporary set will focus more things looking more natural, combining both manmade and natural elements, resulting in more wood pieces. Do not forget though, that if you want to go all out on your design, make sure your walls, windows and floors also go along with the theme!
One thing you WONT have to consider?
The cost between the two different styles of bedroom sets will be negligible. When factoring in cost of a set, you are taking into account the materials used and the number of pieces you are purchasing. A four piece modern bedroom set will always cost more than a three piece contemporary set, and it has nothing to do with how they look.
When trying to decide on whether to pick a modern bedroom set or a contemporary one, bear in mind that sometimes, it can be easy to confuse the two! Especially since contemporary sets can have such similar features. If you aren’t sure, just ask your sales person and they will gladly fill you in on which of their sets are which. Happy Shopping!
